Al Bayan Center for Studies and Planning held a closing conference for the Justice Enhancing Project in Iraq II, marking the culmination of a year-long initiative aimed at advancing justice across various sectors.
The conference featured a keynote address by Dr. Ali Taher Al-Hammood, Managing Director of Al-Bayan Center, who highlighted the significance of the project and its objectives. Mr. Zarkon Rawan, First Secretary for Political Affairs at the Dutch Embassy, discussed the embassy’s role in supporting local institutions to promote justice.
Mr. Muhammad Shahat, Director of the Programs Department, provided a comprehensive presentation on the project, outlining key achievements and challenges faced during implementation. The event also included testimonials from a group of trainees who shared their experiences and the difficulties encountered while conducting training sessions across Iraq’s provinces.
The conference included three discussion sessions, each addressing a different aspect of achieving justice in Iraq. Experts and specialists participated in these sessions, discussing challenges and proposing solutions.
The first session focused on the challenges faced by women employees in the Ministries of Education, examining the impact of the rentier economy on women, as well as issues surrounding family responsibilities and the leaves granted to working women.
The second session discussed political justice in Iraq post-2003, particularly the challenges faced by emerging political parties. It also emphasized the importance of centralization in promoting justice and enhancing community participation in decision-making, especially within provincial councils.
The conference concluded with a third session that delved into the reality of commercial arbitration in Iraq. The session highlighted its significance in activating the private sector, the role of small projects in reducing job inflation in the public sector, and the fairness of procedures for obtaining support for these small enterprises
