    Iraq Sustainable Development Forum

    for Studies and Planning, in collaboration with the Iraq Center for Climate Change. The forum, centered around the outcomes of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), featured keynote addresses by Dr. Ali Taher Al-Hammood, Managing Director of Al-Bayan Center; Judge Salar Abdul Sattar from the Iraq Center for Climate Change; and Dr. Ali Al-Lami, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Climate and Environment Affairs.

    The forum included three dialogue sessions that addressed key issues related to climate action and the green economy in Iraq.

    The first session discussed Iraq’s commitments to climate action following COP 29 and emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation. It also explored the opportunities available to Iraq in climate action, alongside the role of international donors in facilitating the country’s green transformation.

    The second session focused on policy approaches within the energy sector to reduce emissions, underscoring the need for reforms to achieve these goals. It also highlighted the importance of transitioning Iraq’s energy economy into a circular economy to ensure sustainable environmental resilience. During this session, Al-Murshid Group, the forum’s sponsor, launched the “Green Certificate,” an initiative designed to promote sustainability practices and enhance environmental accountability in institutions.

    The third session examined the advancement of the green economy and explored the financing options available to support this transformation.

    The forum was marked by high-level attendance and active participation from government representatives, international organizations, and advisors, underscoring the critical role of collaboration in advancing sustainable development and climate action in Iraq.
