    Al-Bayan Center holds a seminar to discuss commercial arbitration in Iraq

    l-Bayan Center for Studies and Planning on 28 September held a dialogue seminar that discussed the reality and future of commercial arbitration in Iraq, ahead of discussing its draft law in the House of Representatives.

    The seminar was attended by the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Economic Affairs, Dr. Mazhar Mohammed Saleh, and Academic Researcher Dr. Ali Dadoush, who provided their perceptions regarding commercial arbitration in Iraq.

    Saleh pointed to the complexities surrounding arbitration and the importance of passing a comprehensive legal framework for commercial arbitration in order to encourage foreign investment and facilitate domestic investments.

    Dadoush also referred in his paper to his observations on the draft commercial arbitration law currently being discussed in parliament.

    The seminar concluded with a set of important recommendations to develop the legal and regulatory framework for commercial arbitration in Iraq, and to strengthen its role in resolving commercial disputes.

    The seminar was attended by a group of academics, experts, and representatives of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and specialized lawyers, as they referred in their interventions to a number of recommendations in order to enhance confidence in the investment climate in Iraq and attract more foreign direct investments.

    It is noteworthy that this seminar comes within the framework of the project to strengthen justice, which has been followed by Al-Bayan Center for Studies and Planning for nine months.
